The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is making it their mission to help improve the quality of care provided to individuals with mental health and addiction disorders.
The college’s recent move to establish an Integrated Substance Use Disorders (ISUD) program, a collaboration between faculty, students, staff and administrators, was followed by an increase in the number of faculty members who specialize in the area of substance abuse.
But the school didn’t have any plans to create a media program to accompany the new ISUD program.
“We didn’t realize how much the work was going to be required for a media program,” said Julia Berube, executive director of Advancing Care Together, which supported the ISUD program. “This is a really big undertaking.”
Berube, who has worked in the media field since 2012, has learned a lot since starting the media program. One of the main lessons is that it is critical for an organization to be prepared for what challenges they’ll face during the life of the project.
